JCSP Christmas 2011Congratulations and well done to the students of 3G and their teacher, Mr. John C. Doherty on organising a very enjoyable and successful celebration Wednesday, 14th December. On the evening before, they set up the stage area in the Coffee Dock and prepared two classrooms for the displays of students' work. As always, the Classroom Assistants were to the fore, making sure all the decorations were in place. Wednesday morning saw the final preparations fall into place and we were ready.

The Celebrations opened with the JCSP Co-ordinator, Mr. Finbarr Gallagher extending a welcome to all the Parents, Staff and Guest speaker, Stephen McLaughlin (Derry City FC). Mr. Gallagher thanked everyone for the work and effort they had put in all year and wished the students of 3G well with the rest of the Celebration. There then followed some talented performances by a troupe of dancers from the Coyle School of Dancing, Jessica Harkin singing one of her own compositions and Leah McIntyre on Tin Whistle. It was then time for the students of 2A to put on their show. I'm not sure what the whole story was about but the cracking one-liners, the clock with the disappearing hands and the Miss called 'Sir' (who kept forgetting her lines) had the audience in stitches.

Mr.Fiorentini then addressed the assembly with some words of support and praise for the students' accomplishments. This was followed by our guest speaker, Mr. Stephen McLaughlin being welcomed onto the stage. He talked of how pleased he was to be invited back to his old school and the benefits he obtained from his time here. He then presented our students with Certificates of Achievement. Stephen in turn was presented with a trophy made by 3G students to commemorate his visit.

The Celebration was rounded off with a performance form one of our up-and-coming groups, 'The Unwanted'. Parents, Staff and Students were then provided with a great range of refreshments and a chance to view the students' work on display in the classrooms.

Well done to all our students and their Teachers. A special thanks to our Classroom Assistants, the musicians & dancers and John Collins on camera. Finally, to Nicole our MC for the day. What a confident performance!
