Girls Soccer - First Years Impress in Season Opener (Moville CC)

In cold conditions the 1st year CCS girls team got off to a pulsating start. In the first 5 minutes the girls raced into a 2 goal lead. The first came from Leonie Duffy as she latched onto a through ball from Maeve Doherty to finish neatly into the bottom left corner. From the restart, pressure from the rampant CCS midfield including Allanh Curran, Alannah McLaughlin and Jamie-Lee Collins resulted in Moville conceding a corner. A deep cross from Leonie Duffy fell to the feet of Allanah McLaughlin who smashed it into the roof of the net for 2-0.

The game settled after this initial CCS onslaught and Moville came into the game and created a couple of chances themselves. The CCS defence was well organised by their captain Niamh Lafferty and her defensive partner Aine McLaughin. Just before the break, CCS hit another purple patch and scored two more - one from Leonie Duffy, striking from distance and another from Jamie Lee Collins who scored from the edge of the box.

After the interval the game was over as a contest as Leonie Duffy completed her hat-trick, scoring from 8 yards following a great run and pass from Ciara Devine. The scoring was completed 10 minutes into the second half as Alannah Curran added a sixth, scoring from a driving run from midfield to finish neatly into the bottom right corner.

This was an impressive first outing for the first year girls team and the whole squad contributed to an excellent exhibition of football. Well done girls!
