Heartache & Pride at the U18 Erasmus School Cup

(Match Report courtesy of Atlético de Madrid Academy)

In a match that could only be described as a rollercoaster of emotions, @colaiste_muire, Ennis, has emerged victorious in the U18 category at the Erasmus School Cup, hosted by the Atlético de Madrid Academy Dublin. Their opponents, Carndonagh Community School, gave it their all, putting in a jaw-dropping 200% effort in the final. Seriously, we’re still trying to figure out how they managed that!

The first half saw @colaiste_muire leading 2-1, but things took a turn when Carndonagh CS lost their keeper to injury. Talk about a plot twist! With the intensity of a soap opera, both teams were fighting like Amazon warriors.

There was a missed penalty that had everyone gasping, and two or three chances that were almost guaranteed goals—if only the players had brought their scoring boots! But a brilliant counterattack from Coláiste Muire sealed the deal, adding more goals to their tally. The final score? A surprising 5-1! But honestly, it could have easily ended 4-3 or 3-2 if the football gods had been feeling generous.

While there were plenty of tears for the losing team, the joy for Coláiste Muire was palpable. They’ve earned their ticket to Madrid for the MadCup finals, taking place from June 19th to 26th.

So, heartache for the CCS girls, but huge credit goes to them for what they have achieved this season, and of course to their esteemed mentors, Mr. Fergal Buchanan and Ms. Hannah McColgan...Next year!!
