Boys Soccer - Ulster Final Awaits Senior Boys

Carndonagh CS 3-1 St. Clare's Ballyjamesduff

The senior boys football team had a hard fought win over St. Clare's Ballyjamesduff on Tuesday, 1st March. On a bumpy 3G pitch in Cootehill, Carn went ahead in the 14th minute. Sean O'Donnell nipped onto a loose ball in the box and was brought down by the keeper for a penalty. Sean stepped up to take the spot kick, but it was knocked onto the post by the keeper. Cian burke was the first to react and side-footed home. Carn struggled to get to grips with the pitch and further chances were wasted by Adam Duffy and Cian Burke. It was 1-0 at the break.

Carn looked to put the game to bed early in the second half. However, both Adam Duffy and Sean O'Donnell missed chances after sustained pressure. In the 60th minute St. Clare's broke away after a turnover in midfield and their striker slotted calmly through Kyle Harkin's legs. Kyran Cantwell and Brendan McLaughlin came on in the 67th minute. This gave Carn some much needed impetus and in the 75th minute Kyran Cantwell latched on to an Adam Duffy through ball and fired low past the keeper. In the 80th minute it was Cantwell again who was first to the ball on the edge of the area. He made the most of the opportunity and calmly slotting into the corner of the net. Carn finished strongly, creating further chances without success.

The seniors can now look forward to an Ulster Final against St. Eunan's, who will prove to be much stiffer opposition, on Tuesday, 15th March.
