Commiserations to our U17 girls football team who were beaten 1-0 in the Ulster Final by neighbours Scoil Mhuire. In an enthralling game the teams were very evenly matched. Both defences were on top and there was a real battle in the middle of the field with both teams getting on top at different stages. The game progressed to extra time, and with both teams tiring, most of the large crowd were expecting penalty kicks. However, CCS hopes were dashed with less than two minutes of extra time left. An excellently struck free kick by Scoil Mhuire's Jodie Loughrey was well saved by CCS keeper Suzie Lafferty. Scoil Mhuire's Bria McGilloway was quickest to react and prod the ball home. CCS tried to muster a late response, but Scoil Mhuire held firm.
The Carndonagh CS girls can be very proud of their performance in both the game and throughout the season. Everyone involved performed excellently, and on another day we could have been the winners. Tough losses like this can make victory all the sweeter when it comes and it's important that the CCS girls stick together, keep playing, show resilience and try to bounce back next year.
