Young Changemakers Programme
Speak Up. Share Ideas. Make an Impact
The five-week Young Changemakers Programme (funded by 5 Ten Trust) brought together Transition Year students from four Inishowen schools to explore issues that matter to young people and to develop the confidence and skills needed to make their voices heard.
Over the five weeks, students worked together to discuss and explore four important topics:
Road Safety – exploring the responsibilities and choices that can help keep young people safe on our roads.
Mental Health – encouraging open conversations around wellbeing, resilience and supporting ourselves and others.
Girls in Sport – looking at participation, opportunities, barriers and how we can encourage more girls to get involved in sport.
Accessible Teenage Spaces – sharing ideas about what young people need from their communities and how we can create safe, welcoming spaces for teenagers.
The programme provided students with an opportunity to build confidence, develop communication and public-speaking skills, listen to different perspectives and work collaboratively with other TY students from across Inishowen.
A highlight of the programme was seeing students grow in confidence as they moved from sharing ideas within their groups to presenting their thoughts and solutions to a wider audience at the Young Changemakers Showcase.
The enthusiasm, creativity and maturity shown by the students throughout the five weeks was fantastic. They demonstrated that young people have strong opinions, valuable ideas and an important contribution to make to their communities.
A huge thank you to all the students, teachers, schools, facilitators and community partners who contributed to making Young Changemakers such a successful programme.
