Class 2B Visit Islamic Centre Derry

Class 2B recently visited the Islamic Centre in Derry, accompanied by Mr. Peter White and Ms. Marie Lafferty. The one-hour talk was hosted by one of the leading female muslims in the community, and focussed on the role of women in Islam, Mohammed, Qu'ran, misconceptions about Muslims and Islam, relatedness to Judaism and Christianity, ethics, five pillars of Islam, food laws, behaviour, community and purpose in life. Two Muslim men, Reyad and Sameach, also talked for a short while about life as Muslims in Ireland.

Following the talk, the group removed their shoes before entering the prayer area. Tea and biscuits wrapped up the day at the Islamic Centre. Many thanks to the hosts who were very welcoming.

Shalom aleichem / Assalamu alaikum
