A group of transition Year CCS students participated in a live online webinar with the Bar of Ireland on Monday, 2nd March 2026, along with over 60 other schools nationwide, to learn more about a career as a barrister. Students engaged in the live webinar through online polls and quizzes, making the session interactive and engaging.

The morning was divided into four topics:
The legal system and who’s who
The path to the Bar
Criminal law and civil law
The law and me
There were many opportunities for students to ask questions through the Q&A panel throughout the morning. The students enjoyed the event, found it very interesting, and appreciated the interactive elements. A variety of barristers spoke about their areas of specialism, including employment law, sports law, criminal law, and social media law, which gave students a broad insight into different legal careers.
Students were also asked to share their views in an online survey about social media regulations. As of December 10, 2025, Australia implemented a world-first ban prohibiting children under 16 from accessing most major social media platforms. Interestingly, two-thirds of the students felt social media should be banned for everyone under 13, while one quarter felt it should be banned for everyone under 16.
Students learned that there is no single personality type required to become a barrister. If you are interested in how the world works, how it affects people, and have a strong sense of fairness and justice, it could be a suitable career path. They also learned about the importance of developing advocacy skills and were encouraged to take every opportunity that comes their way.
