First Year Boys Soccer - CCS Edge Local Derby

CCS 1-0 MCC

After a bright start CCS took the lead 5 minutes into the game. The front three of Rocco McDaid, Callum McLaughlin and Niall O'Donnell pressed the Moville defence into a mistake that resulted in McDaid intercepting a pass to race clear and round the keeper, only to be dragged down in the vital moment. Ethan Donaghy dispatched the resulting penalty into the top right corner giving the keeper no chance. The game settled after this with two strong defences very much on top. Moville threatened occasionally but mostly from long range efforts. Carn Keeper Josh Walsh dealt with everything comfortably.

The second half was much the same; a tight midfield battle with dominant defences. Carn had one gilt-edged change to double the lead when good work from Ethan Donaghy and Shea Hegerty resulted in Niall McDaid racing clear, but hit effort was well saved by John Joe Lynch the Moville keeper. The last 5 minutes was a tense affair as Moville went for broke, pushing bodies forward and playing more direct. But the well marshalled CCS defence with Conor McNally, Eoghan Brown, Keith Callaghan, Darragh Curran and MOTM Michael Borden withheld this onslaught. The final whistle blew to relieved jubilations.
